8-Bits of Goodness: Platoon

The first casualty of war is innocence. In other words, this game is flippity-floppity hard! Seriously, file this game under ‘Difficult to play/Wish you had a map’. But, if you’re like me, you’d probably just play the title screen for a while. That’s how sweet the song is.

Sorry, for the long wait. I was intent on finding the Paperboy song and it took me awhile. Alas, it was worth it. Thank you, YouTube! I’m posting not only the NES version, but the arcade version, as well.
Thanks:

This song is the ‘Stage 1′ song. I hope you like it, ’cause you’re gonna be hearing a lot of it. This game is pretty hard – I couldn’t get past the first stage. But then again, I’m a dummy.

Sorry, it took so long to post, but I couldn’t find the song from the game I wanted…but this will do. This one is from Ninja Gaiden (a.k.a. Shadow Warriors).
For lack of a better name, we’ll call it “Stage 1″.

8-Bits of Goodness: Shadowgate

Since it’s a new year (and a late post), I’ll put two up for this month only. But first, a little info about Shadowgate…
As the last of the Line of Kings, only you possess the power to prevent the evil Warlock Lord from raising the Behemoth and unleashing it upon the land. Your quest lies within the Castle Shadowgate with its secret passageways, collapsing floors, and armed creatures. Your courage and wisdom will see you through… but a good sword might be helpful.
–From the NES Shadowgate instruction manual.
This game was known for two things: imminent death and high difficulty. So, if you’re a nerd with a sadist urge for failure, then I suggest you play Shadowgate. I know I will!
Enjoy!

8-Bits of Goodness: Rygar

Rygar had some decent music, but it was “Den of Sagila” that was the ’stand-out’ song of the game.

8-Bits of Goodness: Castlevania II

If you were like me and was sheltered from ‘cultic’ video games as a child, then here’s a synopsis of Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest – from The Castlevania Dungeon:
It’s been a few years since the original Castlevania, and instead of reveling in the spoils of his victory against Dracula, Simon Belmont has fallen ill underneath Dracula’s curse. The only way to save himself is by adventuring through the countryside to find Dracula’s body parts – which have been mysteriously scattered all about – and burn them.
Well, if the plot of the game doesn’t scare you, then playing this game at night – alone, will do it for you. Along with that frickin’ face that cries blood. Speaking of crying blood…
One of the best songs on Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, is “Bloody Tears”. It has been remixed to hell and back, but nothing – and I mean nothing – trumps the original.

How to Add Backlight to Your NES Controller

There’s no such thing as a small modification. If there’s a way to make your system look unique and cooler than everyone else’s, then mod away, my child … mod away.
This tutorial will show you how to make the ‘Nintendo®’ logo, on the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) controller, light up when in use. It’s a small modification, but it will make your friends want to kick themselves in the head for not thinking of it first – and that’s always a good thing.

8-Bits of Goodness: Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!

I found a cool site a couple of weeks ago, NES Files.com. It has info, music and roms for old Nintendo (NES) games. The music from the games are MIDI’s, so needless to say, I was disappointed. I just have to have me some 8-bit goodness! However, my anger didn’t envelope me, instead, it inspired me to create a monthly series: 8-Bits of Goodness.
Every month, I will post a song from an NES game.
Why?! Because somewhere, someone is searching their hearts out for the Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out! “Fighting Song”
That’s why!
